Assessment
-
Both partners will jointly attend an 80-minute appointment for a relationship history interview. This helps your psychologist understand your unique relationship story, how it has evolved over time, and your reasons for coming to therapy;
-
If both partners want to proceed with the assessment process, the psychologist may choose to send each individual an online questionnaire for them to complete via Gottman Connect. We ask that you send this back as soon as possible (as this needs to be completed and sent back prior to the feedback session described below on step 4). This data will be thoroughly analysed and you will receive a report that highlights both the strengths and the challenges in your relationship. The cost of this questionnaire is $39USD (in total for both partners);
-
Each partner will then attend a 50 minute individual appointment so that your psychologist can learn more about you as an individual, your experiences both in and outside of your current relationship, and what your goals and needs are;
-
Both partners will attend a 50 minute feedback and goal setting session together where you will work collaboratively with each other and your psychologist to establish whether you would like to enter the treatment phase and discuss the treatment plan.
2
Treatment
If both partners and your psychologist agree to continue into the treatment phase, therapy will involve practical, evidence-based interventions typically guided by the Gottman Method.

These interventions are tailored to your goals and may include:
-
Strengthening friendship and emotional connection
-
Improving communication and managing conflict
-
Deepening trust and intimacy
-
Repairing past hurts or betrayals
-
Building shared meaning and long-term resilience
Appointments are typically weekly or fortnightly depending on your preferences, and progress.
3
Relapse Prevention
-
When the both partners feels ready to continue working on their relationship independently, it is encouraged you continue to attend monthly check in appointments for a few months;
-
If after these initial check in appointments both partners continue to feel they can independently work on their relationship, we will fade out to 3-6 monthly appointments.
